BENEFITS OF OMEGA-3 FISH OILS

I expect you've read and heard lots about the benefits of Omega-3 fish oils. Well, in yesterday's DAILY TELEGRAPH, under the heading 'Eating Salmon Could Halve Arthritis Risk', I saw this feature:

'Eating a weekly portion of salmon could halve the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis, researchers have found.

People who ate at least one serving of fatty fish, such as salmon, trout, mackerel or kippers were less likely to develop the condition than those who did not.

The same benefit was observed in those who ate four servings of lean fish, such as cod, haddock or tinned tuna each week. The benefit is largely attributable to the long-chain omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acid content in fish, according to the study, published in the journal Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases.

Researchers collected dietary information on 32,000 women born between 1914 and 1948 who completed lifestyle surveys in 1987 and 1997.'
