CAN OMEGA 3 FISH OIL HELP PREVENT ALZHEIMER'S?

So - can Omega-3 fish oil help prevent Alzheimer's?

Here's what today's DAILY MAIL has to say on the subject:

'Eating more fish could give you a bigger brain - and even protect against Alzheimer's, it is claimed. People with higher levels of the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil may also have larger brain volumes in old age, says a study in the journal Neurology.

Brain volume decreasing is a sign of both Alzheimer's disease and normal aging.

The study tested 1,111 US women over eight years, until age 78. Those with more fatty acids at the start had a 0.7 per cent larger brain volume at the end, it found. James Pottala, of the University of South Dakota, said: "The results suggest that the effect on brain volume is the equivalent of delaying normal loss of brain cells with aging by one to two years."

The brain's memory centre, the hippocampus, was particularly affected, he said.

Dr Doug Brown, of the Alzheimer's Society, said the study was 'interesting' but warned it was 'a big leap to draw this conclusion.''

Can Omega-3 fish oil help prevent Alzheimer's? Whether it can or it can't, I can recommend Forever's Arctic Sea softgels for all the reasons given in earlier posts!
